Tho federation is seeking increases in the wages of galley staffs, the increases being from £2 6 s 8d to £4 6s 8d u month, while the company counter-claim a for a reduction in pay of £2 3s 4d a, month. The highest wages asked by tho employees is £23 10s h month for the chief cook on inter-colonial and foreign-going steamers, and the lowest wages in the scheduled demands is £l6. In the case of the scnlleryman, who receives at present £ll. 1-is Id, the federation asks £l6, while the demands a deduction to £9 10s. Th’fe is tho greatest variation between the claims and counter-claims. The other main classes in dispute relate to hours of labour, which the federation wishes reduced from ten to eight hours, and overtime, which the workers want increased from 2s to i3y an hour, as against a reduction to Is 6d sought by the employers.
