Lancelot Johnson wa* charged with the murder of Leonard Harding, He was remanded to November 2. bail being refused. The police statement asserts that Johnson was living apart from hie -wife, who engaged Harding to collect evidence with a, view to taking divorce proceedings, ami tho shooting followed, a quarrel between them. Johnson’s advocate contdnded that Harding was mistaken for a burglar-, In the early hours of the morning Lancelot Johnson, u boarder at a wine saloon in North Melbourne, heard rounds of somebody forcing an entry. He wont to the kitchen, armed with a revolver, and saw » man. who proved to be an ox-policeman. Leonard Harding, entering. Ho fired, fatally wounding Harding.
