KAIAPOI UNDER WATER.
BOATS DELIVERING PROVISIONS. - WATER UP TO MANTELPIECES. The flood position in Kaiapoi is much more serious this morning. The water is now running through the centre of the town in Oharles Street, past the Post Office. The water' rose rapidly through the night, and numbers of families practically in the centre of the town had to be removed to places of safety. The hotels and boarding-houses are full, and a number of families are occupying the Technical School and the brewery malt house, which is surrounded by water. Considerable difficulty is being experienced in getting provisions to families who have had to move upstairs. Boats are conveying food from house to house. The outlook is anything but cheerful, but everybody appears to be making] the best of a most uncomfortable position. It is still Tuining heavily. In low lying parts of the town in several places the water is as high as the mantelpieces In some of the houses, and the position is gradually becoming worse.
