LAND AGENT’S LICENSE.
APPLICATION BY JOSEPH HAMLET. AN OBJECTION RAISED. At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon, before Mr H. Y. Widdowson_, S.M., Joseph Hamlet made application for a land agent's license, but an objection against its issue was raised by the Land Agents’ Association. Mr R. Twyneham appeared in support of the application. The Magistrate said that a report had been received from the Land Agents’ Association, which expressed the opinion that it was too soon after Hamlet’s discharge from bankruptcy for him to obtain a license. Mr Twyneham admitted that there were some unusual features about the application, but Hamlet's bankruptcy was caused through a slump in the motor trade. That the bankruptcy was unavoidable was shown by the fact that discharge was granted in less than two months from the date of the jjetition. In reply to the objection of the Land Agents Association. Mr Twyneham produced certificates uf character and fitness for business from seven well-known men. The Magistrate said that he was required to see that an applicant was financially able to carry on business.Mr Twynehan in reply said that Hamlet was guaranteed by the Bank of Australasia for £ISOO. After the bank’s certificate had been produced, the license was granted.
