H.M.S. CHATHAM.

(Per. Press Association.) WELLINGTON. November 15. TT.M.S. Chatham recently completed a ten weeks’ cruise in the tropics and has come to Wellington to enable the crew to attend a musketry course at Trentham. It is expected that the ship will remain in Wellington for a month. She will return to Auckland at Christmas. It is probable that the Chatham will make another cruise to the outlying islands early next year. Very little is heard about the New Zealand navy, or the work being done on H.M.S. Philomel in training youths for the naval service. Captain G. Hotham, of H.M.S. Chatham, speaks enthusiastically of a hatch of lads recently drafted from the Philomel to the Chatham. Over thirty young seamen and Btokers, New Zealand-trained, now arc serving on the Chatham, and hare proved most satisfactory.
