Y.M.C.A. AND Y.W.C.A.
NO SUGGESTION OF PROFITS Philanthrophy and profit in relation to the Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A., concerning which the Arbitration Court was occupied on Tuesday, were subjects of a judgment by the Court issued to-day. The Private Hotels Employees’ Union had applied that _ the two institutions be added as parties to tlieir award. We cannot see any reason for concluding that there has been any change in the manner in which these institutions have been conducted since the Court formerly declined t 6 join them as parties,” stated his Honor Mr Justice Frazer, “and unless the Court is satisfied that the workers are employed for the pecuniary gain of these institutions, it cannot now add them as parties. There is no suggestion that any profit is being made, and if there were any profit it would be devoted towards reducing charges for board and lodging. The institutions are in operation for the purpose of community service, not for gain. For these reasons the Court declines to add these institutions as parties to the award.”
