CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

DRIVERS’ AGREEMENT. The Conciliation Council, presided over by Mr W. H. Hag-ger, ratified the agreement reached iii the Otago district, where it was decided that any agreement reached should hold in every centre, subject to its ratification. Messrs H. J. Otley (employers) and H. Hunter (.union) ratified, the agreement for the Canterbury district. The agreement provides that the minimum wage 3 of workers coming within the provisions of the award shall be as follows: For those driving and attending one horse, £3 15s; driving and attending two or more horses, £3 17s 6d; driving and attendingmotor vehicles of a carrying capacity from scwt to one ton, £3 18s: carrying capacity one ton to two tons, £4 0s Gd ; carrying capacity two tons to throe tons, X‘4 3s; more than three tons. £4 6s 6d. No deduction i 3 to be made from such wages, save for Icfb of time through the worker’s own default or sickness. In addition to the wages above prescribed there is to be paid to such worker a bonus of 10s unless and until the Court shall otherwise order. Casual drivers are to be paid at the rate of Is lid per hour for driving and attending to one horse, and for attending to two or more horses 2s Id per hour. Casual drivers hUending to motor vehicles shall be paid 2s Id per hour for vehicles with a capacity of scwt to two tons, and Os 3d per hour for vehicles of a carrying capacity in excess of two tons. Overtime shall be paid at the rate of 3s 3d per hour, such overtime commencing after nine and. a half hours’ continuous A casual worker is one who is npt employed continuously for one week or more. For work done on Sunday, Christmas Day or Good Friday a casual driver shall be paid at the rate of Is per hour. Employers shall be at liberty to employ voutlis at the following rates:—From eighteen to nineteen years, £2; nineteen to twenty, £2 6s; twenty to twenty-one, £2 14*3. Employers who carry on business as bakers shall be at liberty to employ youths above sixteen years at the following rute.s : Under the age" of eighteen years, £1 Is 6d and found, or £1 14s; from eighteen to nineteen years, .£1 7s 6d and found, or £2: nineteen to twenty years, £1 11s and found or £2 6s; from twenty to twenty-one years, £1 19s and found or £2 14s. In addition to the wages above prescribed, p. bonus is to be paid to workers until the Court decree** otherwise. Except where otherwise provided a week's work i 3 not to exceed forty-eight hours, exclusive of time required for necessary attendance, to horses and motor vehicles. If more than nine hours’ work (exclusive of attendance to horses and motor vehicles) is done in any one day, such work shall be paid for at overtime rates. Employers may make their own arrangements with drivers working in abattoirs.
