A German soldier climbed up the flagstaff on tho French Embassy and removed tho flag,' amidst the cheers of tho crowd below. Tho police dispersed them. Another flag was immeuiatcly hoisted. The seriousness of the incident occurring on France’s National Fete Day was pointed out in a formal protest. Tho soldier escaped. The dag was found on a neighbouring rewf.
