Miss Gaisford (Dannevirke) Is in town. . Mr and Mrs Price BaHantyne (Hawarden) are staying at tb© Clarendon. Major and Mrs F. 'W. Kemp (Wellington) are staying in Christchurch. Mrs Percy Overton has returned from Greta, North Canterbury. Mr and Mrs G. 'L. Rutherford and Alias Betty Rutherford came into town to-day. Mrs William Wood has returned to Christchurch after a visit to Wellington. Mrs O. S. Watkins (Wellington) arrived in Christchurch this morning, ‘and is staying at "Warner's. Mr and Mrs H. Hopkins (Fendalton) entertained a number of friends at bridge yesterday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Russell Grace (Wanganui) are in Wellington, en route to England. Mr and Mrs Q. Melville (Greymoutli), who have been in .Christchurch on a short visit, went. on to Dunedin today. Tho pupils of Woodford House. Havelock, many of them Christchurch girls, gave an entertainment in Havelock in aid of the Tillage Hall, when about £94 was raised. The soldiers from the Orthopaedic 'Hospital find the rest room at the Y.M.C.A. a boon, and the average attendance has been a big percentage of tho patients. Members of the Red Cross Depot dispense afternoon tea there every afternoon, and this « much appreciated. The Hon G. Y. Russell, in opening the Town Planning Conference in Wellington on Tuesday, said: “I welcome the women delegates who have come from the various cities and organisations to this conference. The day when woman was regarded as of minor importance and influence in connection with our national and municipal life has gone for ever. . . The interests of women are in the direction of home and children. It is therefore most important that the women of the country should have the chance of expressing their opinion upon the matters which are coming before this conference.”
