[From Ouu Correspondent.] RICCARTON BED CROSS. The usual meeting of the Riccarton Red Cross was held in the Town Hall on August 7. It was decided to hold a working party in conjunction with Urn Bn sincss meeting every second and fourth Wednesday, beginning on August 2b. at the St James’s Guild room which lias been kindly lent for the pnr-}!'i.-by the vestry. New members will bo gladly welcomed. The committee wishes to thank tho Riccarton Cricket Club for its donation of £3 11s, also’ tho members of the Borough Council for the use of the room in the Town Hall. PATRIOTIC DANCE. The patriotic dance which was held in the Town Hall, Clarence Street, on Thursday evening was well attended. Air Withers supplied the music, and Mr A. Kennedy was AI.C. W.E.A. At tho last meeting of tho local class of tho W.E.A. a general discussion took place on the national efficiency campaign, when tho question was dealt with from various points of view. A motion of condolence with the tutor, Air J. G. Poison, ALA., was carried in silence. It was also decided to send a wreath to express the sympathy of members in the sad loss he had sustained by the death of one of his children. SOCIAL EVENING. A social evening took place last Saturday in the Gnlavantcr- Hall, Air AY. Knight presiding. Arrangements wero made to entertain Mr Hardy, who will bo down shortly on final leave. Twice in recent weeks attempts have been made to hold meetings in tlio Town J.lall_ in connection with tho National Efficiency campaign, but in each case inclement weather interfered. However, a committee, has been formed, and the district is already being canvassed for signatures in order that the sugges. lions of the Efficiency Board might bo carried into effect. AVord has been received from Sapper G. Thomas, formerly of Alandovillc Street, who is with the forces in Egypt. He mentions that he took part in the entry into Jerusalem, as ako did Trooper Stewart Alurray, formerly of Blenheim Road. Trooper Alurray enlisted in one of the early reinforcements.
