The Board approved of its committee's recommendations that a bonus of threepence per cubic yard should be paid on the completion of the shingling on the Hayland Lodge Road, and .that some further work should be done at the Hayland-White Rock Road ford before the final passing of the contract. Mr Hope, the inspector at the new Ashley Bridge, reported the, testing of the first seven spans on October 20 by the district engineer. The chairman stated that the engineer had been pleased to note the exceptional strength of the structure and had ap;rced to recommend the payment of £IOOO of the Government grant of £-1500. Consideration was given to the specifications and estimates for. proposed Government grants, and in the case, of the Grey Bridge approaches and protective works it was deemed advisable to have a resurvey of roadways and rural section boundaries affected.
