CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.
[PEH PRfiSS As^nniATfON".] AUCKLAND, August 14. At the Police .Court John Owen, alias Dorre, alias Rowe, alias Lucy, Avas charged with having, on April 21, 1906, at Aoutoa, Foxton, attempted to murder Augustus Percy Easton. It is alleged that five years ago Owen tried to murder Easton, first by firing 1 at him with a gun, and later by hitting him on the head with an axe. Owen disappeared, leaving no trace but a fingerprint. A few weeks back Rowe was arrested for disorderly conduct in Auckland and _ was sentenced to threo months' imprisonment. His fingerprints, on being sent to the depot, were discovered to be identical with the prints of the missing man. Owen was remanded for one week, and will be further remanded to stand his trial at Foxton.
