Mr F. M. L'. Fisher's remark that the national character was becoming flabby underwent- a searching criticism, hy tho member for Lyttelton last night. Mr Laurcnson said that the statement was curious when it. was remembered that two worth's champions hailed from one province, the tennis and the sculling chanipiou. while a recent football team had made a triumphant tour of Great Britain. "And yet.'' said Mr Laurenson* "we liave allegations that the national character is tecoming flabby.
