.Bis'iop Julius went south to-day. Dr W. B. Benham, who has been visiting Christchurch, left for Dunedin by the midday express to-day. Tli-e Hon J. Barr left for Dunedin T-,-d.\v to conduct the case of the Saddles' Federation before the Conciliation Council.
This morning, before Mr Justice Sim, Mr Michael H'arry Godby was admitted as a barrister and solicitor, on the application of Mr Rhodes. At the meeting of the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute this morning,, Mr Mayne moved, and Mr Owen seconded, the following motion:—"That the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute learns with profound 'regret the death of Mr Thomas Ritchie, late senior Inspector of Schools in. North Canterbury, and desires to place on record its liigli appreciation of the valuable services he has rendered to education in this district; and that in offering to the Misses Ritchie sincerest sympathy in their bereavement. this Institute trusts that they will derive some consolation from the fact that their father has not lived and laboured in vain, and that the loss of his sympathy and mature judgment will long be felt by the teachers of North Canterbury." The motion was carried in silence.
