YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.

FAREWELL TO MRS A. KAYE. There was a large gathering of members of the Christchuroh Young Women's Christian Association at St John's Schoolroom last evening, for the purpose of saying farewell to Mrs A. Kaye, the president of the Association, on the eve of her departure for a visit to Great Britain and Europe. Mr J, D. Hall, who presided, referred to the very valuable services rendered by Mrs Kaye to the Association during several years past, and to the very necessary work which the Association was doing in Christchurch amongst young women. The Association, he

said, provided in some degree for-the lack of home life and influence experienced by girls who were compelled to live away from their own homes, and gave opportunities for wholesome social intercourse and beneficial recreation which might not have presented themselves without the intervention of the Association. In conclusion, he urged his hearers to do all in their power to support and assist the Association, and congratulated the members upon having had so energetic and capable a president during recent years. Mr C. E. Salter, - president of the Young Men's Christian x\ssociation, tendered the greetings of that Association to -the Young Women's Christian Association, and spoke at some length of the work of the two Associations amongst the young people of Christchurch. He expressed regret at Mrs Kaye's departure, and said that lie hoped her presence as a representative of the New Zealand Young Women's Christian Association at the Berlin Conference this year would have very beneficial results.

Mrs Kaye. in the course of her reply, urged the mevsbers of the Association to work loyally rOr the furtherance of the Association's work during her absence, and thanked the previa;-? speakers for their complimentary remlft'S'Ss. Refreshments were then dispensed by members of the Association, and a pleasant half-hour was spent in social intercom-sp. During the evening vocal items, including the .performance of a cantata by the Association's choir, were contributed, the choral number being; given in a manner which bespoke careful and musicianly training.
