: « CHRISTCHURCH. MONDAY, AUGUST 3. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness.— Two first offending inebriates were each fined os and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Vagrancy. — Florence Emma Emeny was convicted, on a vagrancy charge, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour, but the Magistrate gave her the option of spending it in the Salvation Army Home. Sly Grog-seller. — Alfred Bates was fined £20 and costs, in default one month's imprisonment, for having sold whisky without having been licensed to do so. He was arrested yesterday by Detectives Eade and Gibson, and had been selling " nips" from a bottle that he was carrying with him in the . streets. *A vagrancy charge against him was withdrawn.
