Tho shop assistants coustituto a large proportion of tho electors in a district like Christchurch, and Mr C. M. Gray, with an eye tobusiness — political business — has managed to ally himself with the promoters of the Saturday half-holiday agitation. He must think Bhop assistants have short memories that they should forget his uncompromising opposition whenever shorter hours or Saturday dosing has been discussed for tho last quarter of a century.
