The High Commissioner's cable message, dated London, December 21, is as follows: — The mutton market is very Sull owing to a poor demand, and the tendency of tte market seems to be to decline. The following are the current quotations : — Canterbury mutton S2d, North Island 3£d, Australian 2|d, River Plate 3d. The supply of New Zealand lamb is practically exhausted. Australian is in large supply. Sales are difficult to effect at an average of 44d, The beef market is quiet, supplies of River Plate chilled beef being plentiful and very cheap. Quotations: —New Zealand hindquarters 3fd, forequarters 2£d. The butter maTket is very firm 1 . An active demand continues for Christmas, but lower prices are anticipated afterwards. The quality of New Zealand butter is giving satisfaction to buyers. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 120s, Australian. 117s, Argentine 117s, Danish 1245, Siberian Ills, saltless butter 2s less. The cheese market is firm, apd there is a good demand. "White manufacture is quoted at 60s 6d and coloured at 61s 8i . The hemp market is dull and unset>tled, .having been unfavourably affected by the low price of sisal, which has fallen to £22 10s per ton for good quality. Quotations: — Good fair grade, on spot, £28; fair, £27; JanuaryMarch shipments, good fair grade, £27 10s j fair, £26 10s. Prices are, however, irregular. The cocksfoot market is quiet and little- is doing, but a good feeling prevails. Prices are firm at 755. The following are the current quotations for Bradford tops : — Thirty-sixes, low cross-brede, Is Id; forties, low cross-breds, Is lsd ; forty-fours, medium cross-bredis, Is 2}d ; fifties, halfbreds, Is 7d; fifty-sixes, quaTter-bTeds, Is lOd; sixties, merinoes, 2s 2d.
