* EX-KING PREMPEH'S DANCE IN HONOUR OF THE KING. Some time back ex-King Prempeh and the other Ashanti chiefs exiled at Seychelles sent a letter to the Administrator on the subject of the King's illness. His Majesty returned thanks through Mr Chamberlain, at which the Ashantis wero delighted, and sent the following letter to the Administrator: — " Sir, — We have the honour most respectfully to inform through you for his Honor the Administrator approval. The following that, we was exceedingly glad for the good message we have receive from your honor on the 13 instant from his Majesty tho King. "And we therefore beg to apply for a prize or medals for the King's coronation. And also your honor to grand us two or three days to play our country dances at plaisance camp and Rocher. We "are all happy. May God bless him. Keep him long life and peaceful to Reign. "We have the honour to be, Sir, your •humble and obedient servants, " Ex-King Akw&si Prempeh. "Ex-Queen Ya- Aclria. her X mark. "King Asibi his X mark." The dance took place in the presence of tho Administrator, and was opened by Prempeh, who did a kind of shuffle. Alii the chiefs wore their native costumes, and after they had shaken hands with the Europeans present the dance proper began. The younger chiefs exhibited quite a talent for acrobatic dancing. The' most prominent performer was. Kofi Kofia, once a well-known bloodthirsty chief in Ashanti. Some of his "turns*" were reafly remark-i able, and his flowing white robes gave a serpentine effect which would create a furore at a music-hall.
