One of the chief merit* claimed for th« New Hebrides settlement scheme is that it> will counteract Frendh- attempts to colonise the groups.. Settlers will be allowed to lea« 8 not less that fifty and not more than five hundred! acres.: The terms of leases are a rental of one shilling per fifty Acres foe 1 three years, with; the right of extension for ninety-six years at one penny am acre per annum if at the end of the thirdl year ten shillings an acre has been expended on the land.
