♦ REPORT OF A WRECK CONTRADICTED. [Peb Pbess Associate-] , N WELLINGTON, Jan, 3. San Fritncisco papers to hand by the last mail, under date Portland, Oregon, Dec. 4, gave a circumstantial account of the foundering of the British ship Nelson (Captain Perriam), with all hands, "off the mouth of the Columbia River, in a gale, on the" night of Dec. 3. The vessel was placed on the overdue list, and a re-insur-ance of 40 per cent quoted^led to no speculation. On Thursday, Jan. 5, the "San Francisco Chronicle" received an intimation from Port Townsend that the Nelson had passed there in tow, and 'her name was at once removed from the overdue list. The Nelson is a welbknbwn trader to New Zealand, and her commander is most popular in this colony. *'• \-
