BOROUGH COUNCILS.

— - ♦ KAIAPOI. A meeting of the Kaiapci Borough Council was held en Tuesday evening ; present — .The Mayor and all the Councillors. Corres-' pondence was read rj-^-From Mr Papprill, relative to sheep-driving. He considered that the Council had a right to impose what restrictions it considered necessary. From the Eev John Orchard, to have his name placed on the burgess roll instead of . the Rev P. W. Fairclough. Agreed to. From Mr Leithead, manager of iiie Woollen Factory, asking for grit to be spread on Ranfurly Street. Thig had been attended to. From the Town Clerk, stating that the drains had been attended to. He recommended that grit should be pvt on certain footpaths, and that the foreman should have the assistance of a man, as the late weather had caused certain works to be somewhat behind. Agreed to. Mr J. Sims was willing to have two large pipes placed where the floodgate was required. Agreed to. It was resolved that the Akaroa Street drain should be cleared. The Finance Committee reported that the Sheep By-law; Committee recommended its adoption-. Agreed to. The Works Committee reported on. certain works. The North Read footpath would cost about 22s 6d per chain, and there were twenty chains required. It was resolved that the work should be done, and that specifi- , catiors be prepared and tenders callfed for. It was resolved to attend to the drain running from MrE. Baker's to the river at once. The matter of asphalting was postponed till the spring. The Works Committee's report was adopted, and it was agreed to have the new rolls printed, to be signed by Councillors Pearce and Paly. Some 132 new names had been enrolled. The Council agreed to call for tenders for. re-roofing, the morgue and for a section in. Fuller Street. The Finance Committee reported receipts £15 11s, debit at bank' £638 15s 3d, and recommended accounts to the amount of £79 16s 3d for payment. Adopted. Councillor Hayman gave notice of motion relative to the sheep traffic, allowing sheep to be driven through the town between, the houvs of 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. only. Several matters were left in the hands of the Works Committee, with power to act, and the meeting closed. . • ■
