Messrs Gordy Bros., Baxter, and Deana lost much fencing, and only by great efforts were Mr Baxter's homestead and a house near Homebush saved from destruction. Early on Sunday morning a boarding-' house, occupied by Sirs Rainey, opposite the railway shed 3, East Street, Ashburton, was burnt to the ground.
