CORRESPONDENCE.
SAVE THE CHILDREN. TO THE EDITOR. '••• Sm, — rl was much impressed with .." Sister Edith's " wish;' She deserves thethanks of the whole community. We ow"e a duty to ourselves and society. Her remarks regarding the truant officer and begging children should set people thinking. I trust the reform will be worked without prejudice. A few weeks ago, it came under my notice that certain children were • from school. • And why ? . Because there was no food, for them. The mother had. lately: been confined, and the father was.out of work. Then again, another lot was absent .for want of clothing. These non-attendances are not offences of the heart, but of an all-controlling necessity ; and such cases must be met without the holding up of unfortunate people to the eyes of an all-condemning world. There are times when our prerogative should be rather to requite than exact the utmost rigour of the law, lest such should break an honest spirit. — I am, &c. W. H. DACOMBE.
