AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
POST AND TELEGRAPH CLUB. The half-yearly general meeting of this club was held at the Clarendon Hotel en Saturday evening. There was a fair attendance, and the president, Mr E. Kirton, occupied the chair. The report stated that there were eighty-two members on the roll, as compared with seventytwo for the preceding half-year. Although the club's cricket teams were generally successful, the First Eleven occupied a lower- .position in the Junior Cup Competi-: tion thanit did last season. This" was clue to «ant of practice and inability to play their full strength. The athletic events' were very popular, and the committee recommended that additional running races be held during the winter. It was mentioned that although the proposed social room was not yet an accomplished fact, the committee intended to persevere in the matter. Sympathy was expressed with Mr W. G. Garrard, who met with a serious,' accident while starting the half-mile running race, and thanks were accorded to Messrs Garrard, Francis, and Cusack, for their assistance at the club's races. The committee ialso^-desired -to thank :Mes3rs R. Kirton and Jones ,and Sons for trophies presentedfor athletics, and Me3Brs? George Keys (Sheffield), L. King, and Treweek for cricket trophies. The following were elected as the . committee : — Messrs L. King, J. W. Hall, D. Miller, W. J. Larcombe, J. Haydon and W. Gerard. It was decided to leave the question of making arrangements' for hockey and football in the hands of the committee. After passing a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman the meeting closed. .
