KLONDYKE.
A San Francisco newspaper of Feb. 25 states that although the journey to Dawson City at. the present period of the year entails the most severe hardships, 1 the rush of treasure-seekers is already in full blast, and every north-bound boat is loaded with prospectors from all parts of the world. The only way to get into the country at this time of year is over the Chilcoot and White Passes, and as tempest blizzards rage there during the winter months the travellers are, indeed, taking their lives in " their handa. An idea of the enormous extent of this flood of gold-seekers can be gathered from the fact that a fleet of no less than 125 vessels is engaged in handling the throng of expectant humanity. The first estimate that 50,000 people would go into the Yukon country this spring has been abandoned, and it is now figured that the total will be near, the 100,000 mark. They come from every quarter of the world, and embrace all sorts and conditions of men, while women, and even children, are in the army that is invading the. frozen north.
