SWIMMING.
MEETING AT LEITHPIELD. Yesterday morning a party of fifteen swimmers, principally from the Eichinond Clvib, cycled up to Leithfield at the invitation of Mr J. E. Moore, captain of the newly-formed club there. An excellent programme of swimming, plunging, polo, and high-diving was gone through to the great interest of the Leithfield members. The following are the results : — 50yds HANDICAP-Firat heat : W. H. Cooke, ssee, 1 ; J. L. Northey, 4sec, 2. H. Truscott scr and H. J. Moon also started. Time— 4o£sec. Second heat : C. L. Hiorns, scr, 1 ; C. Bassett, 7sec, 2. J. Northey ssec and J. Petrie "see also started. Time— 36Vsec. Third heat ; J. E. Allen, 4sec, IjF. M. Paull, Bsec, 2. D. Bowen Hsec and O. Simpson ]4sec also started. Time— 38£sec. Final beat: J. B. Allen, 1; W. H. Cooke, 2. C. L. Hiorns and J. L. Norther also started. Won on the touch after an exciting finish between the four competitors. Time— 3BJaec. TEAMS RACK, 100yds— A team (Truscott, Cooke, J. Northey and C. Bassett), 1-, B team (Hiorns, Allen, Petrie and J. L. Northey), 2. Time— 74Jsec. LON& DIVE-J. L. Northey, distance 100ft, 1. PLUNGE— J. L. Northey (Australasian champion), 42ft 6in, 1. NEATEST HIGH DIVE-H. J. Moon, 1; W. H. Cooke, 2. • WATER POLO— This resulted in a draw, with one game each, between teams captained by Messis Allen and Truscott. Of the Leithfield players Smith and Balknger played well. The contingent were afterwards entertained at a dinner by the officers of the Leithfield Club, who expressed their intention to affiliate at an early date with the New Zealand Swimming Association. Messrs H. Rich/ who won the Quartermile Championship of New Zealand at Wanganui, and A. B. Truscott, 100yds Champion of New Zealand, having expressed a wish to meet in a 220yds race, the committee of the Canterbury Swimming Club has decided to include a Grand Invitation 220yds Scratch Eace in the programme of the annual race meeting which will be held in Mr Kent's tepid bath, Eichmond, next Friday night. Both swimmers are in fine form at present, and as the water will be heated they should put up fast time. J. L. Northey, plunge champion of Australasia, will attempt to beat the record, and Messrs T. H. Harker and G. J. Errington will give an exhibition of aauatic feats. I
