WELLINGTON NEWS.

I Pea Press Association. I WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Ah Fong, a well-known Chinese interpreter, was charged at the Magistrate's Court with appropriating to his own use the sum of .£4 12s 6d, alleged to have been entrusted to him for the purpose of obtaining naturalisation papers for three of his countrymen. The defence was that the money had been received by accused for the purpose of assisting in an agitation against the passage of the last Alien Immigration Restriction Bill. The case was adjourned to allow further witnesses to be examined, among whom probably will be the Hon S. E. Shrimski. At a public meeting to-night, presided over by the Mayor, a resolution was carried heartily endorsing the proposals for the construction of a dock at Wellington, and urging the Harbour Board to give the question its early and favourable consideration.
