[Per Press Association.] INVKRCAEGILL, Jan. 28. At the Elufl' Harbour Board to-day the Han J. G. "Ward spoke strongly iv favour of abolishing port dues, arguing that as the revenue -wa-i now .£12.000 and the expenditure .£BOOO, the Board could afford to make it a free port, as the increase of shipping -would nearly, if nob entirely, meet the loss of export dues, which were last year ,£5108; A complaint was made to the Board that the dairy produce of the district could not bo skipped at the port, the case in point being the JBanffshire, which has been here and will return before leaving the colony, yet Southland produce must be sent to Dunedin to hor. At a meeting to-night it was resolved to float a woollen company here with a capital of <£] 5,000.
