E BATTERY.

The members of the E Battery did their annual volley and independent firing at Bromley range yesterday, in weather ■which was so unfavourable as to go far towards accounting for the moderate scores made : a strong and gusty nor*-west gale blew across the range all the afternoon. The firing was superintended by Lieut-Colonel Gordon, assisted by Staff-Sergeant-Maior Purvis. Forty-six members of the battery were present — viz., two officers — Captain Donald and Lieutenant Cowlishaw — four sergeants, two trumpeters and thirty-eight gunners. The figure of merit was 11*02 for volley firing and 13-07 for independent firing. Three squads fired, and the following are the details of the shooting of each squad :
