. Lincoln College Sports. — The annual 1 sports of the School of Agriculture, Lincoln, will be held in the grounds at Lincoln College, on Saturday, Oct. 17. The first event will be started at 10.30 a.m. Chrysanthemums. — The propagator for the Timaru 'Chrysanthemum Club has forwarded about four hundred new plants to members, and they have given much satisfaction. A consignment from England has reached him in good condition, and a fresh order is being made up; Ohoka Race • Privileses. — The privileges fcjr the Ohoka meeting were sold by Mr "W. Buss at his Rangiora auction rooms yesterday as follow : — Gates, .£lB 18s, to "W. Power; luncheon booth, .£9, to L. Cox; cards, £5 los, to T. White; and right of sports, 12s 6d, to J. Lane; total, ,£34 5s 6d. Kaiapoi Volunteer Encampment. — Yesterday the men were put through drill in the park, chiefly in skirmishing and outpost duty. In the evening the campers entertained their friends at a dance in the dlillshed. Messrs Hoskins (cornet) and« Bennetts (piano) supj>lied the music. A number of Rangiora volunteers were present. ~~ South Canterbury Art Society. — The annual meeting of the South Canterbury Art Society was held on Monday evening, 'when the officers of the past year were reelected except, one or two members of the Committee, whose places were filled. The Treasurer's balance-sheet was satisfactory, showing a credit balance of . nearly .£lO. The next exhibition will be held in December. ASHBUBTON BOEOUGH COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Ashburton Borough. Council was held on Monday evening-, when his Worship the Mayor presided. The overdraft was reported at .£IBO4 19s 9d. The Council went into committee on the question of the Wakanui Creek, and on resuming resolved to ask the Borough solicitor to send in his account in connection with the question. The Council then sat as a Domain Board, and it was decided 'that the Board should assume control of the sports ground. : Kirwee. — The monthly meeting of the Kirwee Band of Hope was held on Monday evening, Mr Belgiave, president, in the chair. The attendance was large, and a capital programme of songs, recitations, dialogues and an instrumental selection was given by Mrs Croskell, Misses Boulton, Belgrave, Crosskell (2), Fairbairn t'3), Meredith and Stewart (3), Messrs Belgrave, Chivers, Drumtuond, Dixon, Harm, Hitchins and Williams. Miss Croskell presided at the harmonium. At the close of the meeting six new members were enrolled. Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association. — A meeting of the Committee of 'the Ashburton Agricultiu-al and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance, and the President was in the chair. It was decided that the judges of implements should also judge in the competition for the best truss of hay. The private prize list was read, as promised up to present, and a hearty vote of thanks passed to the donors. The Farmers' Cooperative Association prize of .£3 3s was alloted, two guineas going to the winner of most points in pigs, and the remaining guinea to the winner of most points in butter. Mr C. Reid's donation of £2 2s was also alloted, one gninea for best three-year-old draught colt and one guinea for best exhibit of hand-made butter. It was resolved to make an effort to obtain a number of life members for the Association, and a sub-committee was appointed to canvdss outside the district.
