BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI.
The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council- was held last evening ; present — Concillors Weston, Mathews, Hopkins, Ddubleday, Drabble, Blakely and Bugg. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Simpson and Clark: In the absence of the Mayor, owing to ill-health, Councillor Doubleday was voted to the chair. Mr C. Fisher applied to have paths on his property asphalted, offering to bear the cost. This was declined. The secretary of the Fire Brigade asked for £2 9s 6d, cost of service medals for Messrs Henry and Bate. Granted. The surveyor's report showed an outstanding liability of £6 odd due from the owner of a section in connection with the formation of Walker Street, and it was resolved to take the necessary step3 to brine: the section under the Unclaimed Lands " Act. The Finance Committee reported receipts for two weeks as .£ls 11s 4d, debit balance at bank .£7Bl 133 7d, and recommended accounts to .£47 103 5d for payment. Adopted. An extension of time was granted to the committee for consideration of a scheme for the maintenance of the Kaiapoi Bridge. Tenders were opened for the supply of 100yds boulders, and that of Mr Doorey, at Is 2f d per yard, delivered in trucks at West Oxford, was accepted. Councillor Bugg stated that he had examined the water on Mrs Hicks' land, and did not consider that it was stagnant at the present time. The matter was referred back to the Sanitary Committee. Councillor Mathews' notice of motion relative to the rate, was passed, and the meeting closed. The Council then sat as the Domain Board, and after several small matters had been attended to, the meeting closed.
