ASHBURTON.

An ordinary meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council was held on Monday. The Mayor occupied the chair, and all the Councillors except Councillor Bird, were present. The debit balance at the Bank was reported to be .£1631 103 2d. The question of a meeting with the County Council to arrange matters respecting charitable aid was left in the hands of the Mayor. The report of the Library and Works Committee was adopted. A committee was appointed to visit the Hinds endowment reserve. The Engineer's report and the Inspector's report were read and adopted. It was resolved to request the Minister of Railways to have the railway reserve through the town cleared. Mr Harrison wrote, complaining of the damage done to his land by the water-race taken through it. The matter was left in the hands of the Mayor. Councillors Collins and Cuthbertson were appointed to sign tho rate roll, and accounts amounting to dSICO were passed for payment.
