Association.] ;//■:/-■ : : yieniia,:Nov.,2.o. ■■. ;^he; death!, is announced of Count Taafe, ifche Austrian- statesman^ ; ; -*'■ [Count Edward Francis Joseph Taafe wag born at ' Prague' in 1833. He was Visoqunt Taafe of Correy and Baron of Ballymote, Sligo, in the Irish perage; being a descendant of the Irish nobleman of the same name who made a great reputation in the Germanic Empire, He was brought np with the present Austrian 'Emperor, Francis Joseph. He entered the Austrian Imperial service in 1857 as Secretary of the Hungarian Government, and subsequently occupied several' responsible offices. He showed great ability in mediating, between conflicting creeds end nationalities, and > publicly expressed fain disapproval of the I anti-Semitic agitation. Early in 1893, >, after having long been Premier, he fonnd i himself in difficulties until the German i Liberals and Poles came to his aid. In > Ootober of that year the German Liberals, i the Poles and the Conservatives all turned ; against him beoanae of his Electoral Re- > form Bill, which practically amoiinted to s measure of universal suffrage, 'and he went f out of office. ' . "
