At a public meeting at West Clive on Saturday night it was resolved to forward a petition to the Government asking it to take under consideration the acquisition for settlement purposes of land owned by R. P. Williams, and known as to the Whakatu Estate, containing 732 acres, at present advertised for sale. WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. The telegraphic chess 'match between Auckland and- Wellington resulted in a Victory for the Wellington Club, which won ten game, s to the northerners' four. Five unfinished games will be referred for adjudication to Mr Hookham, of Christ church. ' ... , The man Williams has been committed for trial.- ■■ .
