JABEZ BALFOUR.
THE LIBERATOR FRAUDS.
SENTENCE "OP FOURTEEN YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. [Special to Pbess Association."! LONDON, Nov. 28. Jabez Balfour waa sentence^ to fourteen years' hard labour. The Judge, in sentencing Balfour, aaid that the prisoner's was the master mind which planned the frauds, and he obtained millions by using others, who were simply tools in his hands. The prisoner received the sentence without showing any outward emotion.
In connection with the Liberator Building Society frauds, G. E. Brock and M. i'heobald, two of the directors, were sentenced to nine and four months' imprisonment respectively.
On the announcement of the sentences the crowd in the streets cheered, and there was great excitement as the prisoners-were removed. Tho Crown haß decided not to proceed further in connection with the charges againßt those alleged to be implicated in the frauds.
