[Peb Pbxss Association.] WELLINGTON, August 26. A special meeting of the Fire Insurance Companies of Wellington waß held thiß afternoon, to consider what action should be taken in view of the large number of fires in Palmerston North, when a committee was appointed to visit Palmerston North at an early date, aud subsequently advise suoh course of action as may be deemed desirable. At a meeting of the Public Works Committee of the City Council to-night, plans for the erection of public baths at each end of the oity, to cost £2000 each, were adopted. The committee also approved a suggestion for the construction or a general market plaoe, to cost something like £5030. Both recommendations will be considered at a meeting of the Council on Thursday night, but the latter is considered likely to be rejected.
