Robinson, Governor of i Western Australia, has joined the J directorate of the Standard Bank, | South Africa. The Colonial Office states that he cannot hold both the directorship and the Governorship, and Sir W. Robinson will, therefore.
accept a pension and retire. BANK OF ADELAIDE. Mr Stewart, the Official Receiver, has declared a dividend of fifteen shillings in the Bank of Adelaide's estate.
MODERN ARMAMENTS. Mr Gladstone denounces the insane strain caused by the expense of modern armaments. THE P. AND O. COMPANY. Sir T. Sutherland, presiding at a meeting of the P. and 0. Company, said the receipts from freight and passage money had slightly iucreased during the half year. The Australian:, passenger.retnrns, however, had shown no improvement.
