CANTEBBUBY BUGBY UNION.

A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Bugby Union was held at the Clarendon Hotel last evening; present— Dr Jennings (in the chair), Messrs L. A. Cuff, W. J. Cotterill, F. T. Evans, G. H. Mason, J. U. Collins, T. M. Buntin, H. Frost, F. B. ABquith and W. G. Garrard.

A. letter was read, from Mr Hoben, honorary secretary of the New Zealand Bugby Union, stating that the rules of the Canterbury Befereeb' Association had been considered by tbe Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Union, with the following results :—•" Bale 2, disapproved. The addition to the definition of a tackle not considered necessary. A try, approved. Knock on, approved. Throw forward, approved. Fair catch, must be a clean catch. Mark cannot be allowed unless claimed , in accordance with Bule 11., section H."

Letters were read from the Sydenham Football Club and Sydenham Cricket Club, asking the Union to give a donation towards improving a portion of Sydenham Park for cricket and football purposes. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Caff, Garrard and Asquith, was appointed to consider the matter and report.

The following reinstatements from Senior Championship to Junior Flag were passed : — J. Marriner (Merivale), J. Little, Benaldi and Purchase (Kaiapoi), and 3. Betts (Sjydenham). The grounds and referees for the Senior matcheß on Saturday were arranged as follow :— Merivale v. Linwood (Mr Cotterill) and Christchurch v. East Christ- i ohurch (Mr Richards), at Lancaster Park;': Kaiapoi v. Sydenham (Mr Aaqnith), at Kaiapoi ; North Canterbury v. Canterbury College (Mr Labatt), at Sydenham Park. ' It was decided to inquire into a complaint as to the behaviour of some supporterß of the St Albane arid SouthernClubs during the progress of the Linwood v. Kaiapoi President's Cup match.

On the suggestion of Mr Cotterill it was decided that all Senior matches Bhould commence at 2.45 p.m.

Mr Cotterill brought up the question of the rule relating to hand-ball, and suggested that the rule might be modified so aa to allow referees to uae their discretion when appeals were made.

' After discussion, Messrs Cotterill and Evans were appointed to bring the matter before' the Referees' Association, and report to the committee. ' Mr Asqnith reported that the Drapers, Linwood and North Canterbury Clubs wished the Union to allow the Thursday Flag competition to be held this year. The request was complied with, and Mesarß Berry and Muesen were appointed a Bub-committee, pro tern., to make the necessary arrangements. It was reported that the Union had a balance in hand of £180. The following will play for the Drapers against North Canterbury, at Bangiora, tomorrow—Hurcombe, Voyce, Hebden, Wil- j kinson, Eyburn, Yangioni, Annan, Wade, Hunter, Thompson, Bowker, Morgan, Allison, Kennedy and Banks. ' A drag will leave the post-office at one o'clock. .
