[[Special to Pbess Association.! LONDON. Jtjne 10.

> Sir W. Eobinson, Governor of West Australia, in a paper read at a meeting of the Colonial Institute, described the wonderful advance the colony had made during the last four yearß. Colonists fully recognised, and were quite equal to, the duties of responsible government, and he declared that there were no more contented and prosperous people south of the equator than the inhabitants of West Australia, and no part of the | world offered a fairer field for enter- [ prise and industry. He firmly believed that the highest hopes in regard to the wealth of the auriferous deposits of the colony would be realised, and some experts estimated' the value of the output of gold as high as ninetyfive and a half millions sterling. Sir William emphasised the value of the timber resources of the colony, arid predicted a splendid future for the vine-growing industry. ' He understood that the Midland Railway Company of West Australia was about to formulate a comprehensive scheme for the settlement of the people do its lands; which would be of incalculable benefit -to the colony at large.
