It is rumoured that a rich Bnd of gold haa been made in this district, but the locality and the names of the finders have not yet been disclosed. EAWERA, May 11.
The verdict at the inquest on Mary Maxwell, who died a fortnight ago, was that death was the result of a miscarriage, but that the cauee of such was not proved.

Parliament will be opened at about the same time aa usual— the third week in June. The Times eays that the Government's policy measures are in a forward state.
The Independent Ordar of Oddfellows decided to establish a woman'B branch and thirty names were handed in at once. A charter will be applied for without delay. The Masonic Newspaper Company has been registered, and Messrs Gillon, Wilson, Freeman, Fletcher, Hamerton and Baillie have been elected directors, with Mr H. J. Williams as editor and manager. The paper- will be published on June 1.
