St Matthew's, St Albans.

The annual parish gathering and sale of useful and ornamental work in connection with St Matthew's Church, St Albans, was held yesterday. There were four stalls and a Christmas-tree, all of which were well laden with a variety of plain and fancy goode. They were presided over by the following ladies :— Plain and fancy, Mesdames Williams, Walker and Capper ; fruit and flowers, Mesdames Leach and Cochrane j tea and coffee, Mesdames Dixey and Watson and Miss Moore. The Chrißt-mas-tree and fancj stall were presided over by Misses Andrews, Bowers, Bilton, Norris and Robins, members of the Young Women's Guild connected with tha church. Messrs E. Norris and S. M'Causknd had charge of the scientific apparatus stall, and several members of the Young Men's Guild amused the young people with a shooting gallery and various parlour games. A large number of entries were received for the cake and confectionery competition, the following being the prize winners : — Married ladies — Prettiest supper dish, Mra Cochrane ; small cakes, Mrs Cochrane; pastry, Mrs Parker. Young ladies over sixteen — Sponge cakes, Miss Leach; small cake 3, Mis 3 Norris ; sponge sandwiches, Miss May Barker; confectionery, Mies Norris. 1-oung ladies under sixteen— Fruit cakes, Miss Jessie Cochrane; sponge cakes, Mis 3 Helen Leach; sponge sandwiches, Miss Kathleen Gordon.
