FOOTBALL.
— ■■». [Special to Pbess Association.! SYDNEY, July 24. The Wakatipu arrived this evening. The recruita for tbe New Zealand football team had a good passage, and will take part in the Bathurßt match on Wednesday. The team returned from Brisbane to-day, and the men all appear in good condition. [Special to the " Stab.] WELLINGTON, July 25. There is a good deal of talk here respecting the Press Association telegram from Dunedin stating that the combined Otago and Canterbury v. New Zealand match is not likely to come to anything, as there is not time to get up a team. It iB considered here that as the play of the best Otago and Canterbury men is well known a team could easily be got, and it is suggested that if the real reason is that the southern Unions do not consider that a fifteen would be strong enough, the New Zealand team would play eighteen Otago and Canterbury representatives.
