Wedding at Waikari.

Waikari was en fSte on Thursday, the occasion being the marriage of Miss Edith Marion Lance, only daughter of Mr J. D. Lance, of Horeley Down, and Mr J. A. Northcote, of Highfield station, son of the EevH. M. Northcote, of Mokohatnpton, Devonshire, and nephew of the late Lord Iddesleigh. The ceremony, which was favoured with delightful weather, took place, at the Oddfellowß* Hall, there being no Episcopalian church in the township. The building had been most elaborately and beautifully decorated by the bridesmaids; and some time before the hour of noon, the time fixed for the ceremony to begin, the room was crowded to excess. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a white ivory satin dress, with white brooade Empire train and pearl trimmings. She also wore a veil and wreath of orange blossoms, and a necklet of amethysts and pearls, the gift of the groomsman, Mr Frank Northcote ; her whole costume being most pretty and becoming. The bridesmaids wete Miss Molly Lance, Miss Phyllis Woodhouse, Mias Wilaon, Mias Kathleen Wilson, Miss Emma Wilson, Miss Bath gate and Miss Scott. They were dressed in primrose silk, with brown velvet sleeves and brown velvet hats with ostrich tips, and each wore a gold bangle, the gift of the bridegroom. The groomsmen were Messrs Frank Northcote, F. and B. Wilson, Fox and Horewood. The ceremony, which was performed- by the Eev Hugh Northcote, brother of the bridegroom, was opened by singing the marriage hymn, " The Voice that Breathed O'er Eden," Mr Barker presiding at the organ and Mrs Alan Scott leading the singing. At the conclusion of the ceremony the wedding party drove to Horsley Down, where the orthodox breakfast was partaken of by a large number of guests, amongst whom were Mr and Mrs F. H. Wilson, Mr and Mrs Alan Scott, Mr and Mrs E. Tanner, of Napier; Mr and Mrs A. Collins, of Kaikoura ; 9fr and Mrs E. Wilder, Mr and Mrs T. M'Donald, Mr and Mrs W. Rutherford, Mr and Mrs Courage, Mr and Mrs Greenwood, Mr and Mrs E. D. Giles, Mr and Mrs E. M. Pemberton, Mr and Mrs J. G. S. Tonkin, Mrs Davie, Mrs Barker, Miss M'Donald, Miss Studholme, Miss Adams, Mies Foster, Miss Courage, Miss Greenwood, and Mr Douglas. After the breakfast the happy couple left, .midst & shower of rioe and slippers, in a coach and four bound for Teviotdale en route for an ex-' tended wedding tour through the South Island, and afterwards to Sydney and Melbourne. Before leaving, the bride took an affectionate farewell of her favourite hunter and old sporting companion, The Flea, who was gaily decked with wedding fayoura. The presents received by the bride formed a large and costly collection. In the evening, Mr and Mrs Lance gave a dance to* the residents of the whole country side, about three hundred being present. The dance was held in a large marquee, which had been fitted with a capital floor by Mr A. J. White 5 and the merry-making wbb kept np until nearly daylight, all present highly appreciating the kindness of the host and hostess. The bride's cake, five tiers in height, was a splendid specimen of the confectioner's art, and did much , credit to Mr Freeman, of Christchurch, who supplied it. The bride's dress was made by Mrs Warden, at Messrs Ballantyne and Go's, and f ally maintained the high reputation of the establishment.
