Gust and West Eyreton Sports.
This annual fixture came off on Thursday, and the attendance, in spite of the cold e&sterly wind, resulted in gate money to the extent of £14 being taken. Prominent among the promoters were Meßßra Cooper, Head, Walsh, White, Atkinson, Marten, Horrell, and the Eev Mr Gibson. The Eangiora Braes Band played during the day, and the young folk were not forgotten, toys being run for under the supervision of Mr S. Horrell. The results of the principal events were as follow :— Grand Handicap, 100 yds, 220 yds, and 440yds—Fitzpatnek 1, Hawker 2. Mile— W. Livingstone 1, Hawker 2. Half-mile — W. Livingstone 1, R. Meredith 2. 440 yds Hurdles — Fitzpatrick 1, Thomas 2. District Trot; two miles — Mr D. Howat's bay gelding 1, Mr W. Bennett's brown mare 2. The Tug-of-War between a team selected by Mr G. W. Searles from men employed at his threshing machine against eleven all- comers, resulted in a victory for the former. Tilting at' the Eing — Peter Lister. At the conclusion of the sports an adjournment was made to the Oddfellows' Hall, where a capital tea was provided by Mr J. M'lntyre, of Fernaide. On Thursday evening a highly successful entertainment in aid of the sports was held in the Oust Institute Hall.
