Opening of the Boating Season.

The opening of the season which takes place on Saturday, promises this.year to be even more successful than hitherto. Some seventy boats will take part in the procession. After the usual ceremony of peaking oars, several scratch races will take place. The Darktown Club have notified the Committee that several membors of , their Club intend taking part in the afternoon's ceremonies. Two crews from this Club were present at last year's open- ' ing, aud caiiEed no little amusement by 1 their vagaries. The Union Rowing Club ' intend celebrating the opening of the j season by holding a dance in their social ' hall on Friday evening, and, from the large demand for tickets, promises to turn out a great succobs. Afternoon tea will also be provided on Saturday for lady friends of the j Club and visitors. All the Club 3 have had ! their plants overhauled and put in order for the coming season. The river, of an evening, now presents a very busy appearance with the various crews at work.
