CANTERBURY TYPOGRAPHICAL ASSOCIATION.
The half-yearly general meeting of the above was held in the Foresters' Hall, Oxford terrace, on Saturday evening. The President (Mr A. K. Chapman) was in the chair, and there, was a full attendance of members. The half-yearly report and ' balance-sheet were, after slight discussion and amendment,- adopted. offices having been accepted by all the offices except Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs. The balance-sheet, which Bhowed a good sum to the credit of the Society, was unanimously adopted. DuriDg the half-year .£ll Os 6d had been contributed by the Association to the Tailors, Tailoresses and Pressers' Union of Cbristchutch, and £o to the Petone mill hands. Emigration and out-of-work allowances had also been paid to several members, and £92 16s 6d, expended in connection with the dispute with Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs. The hearty thanks of the Association were unanimously accorded the Maritime Council, for assisistance rendered and promised in connection with this dispute. A special report, dealing with the Conference between the Association and the Lyttolioii Times and Press Newspaper Companies, was laid before the meeting, and an exhaustive, animated and orderly discussion took place thereon. Finally, a resolution was adopted dealing with the rate of pay on daily papers, to the effect that threemonths from date the late shall be Is per thousand. During the evening a deputation from the Bootmakers' Union addressed the meeting, in reference to' Union brands of bootß, urging the members to be careful, in purchasing boots, to see that they bore Union brands. The deputation announced that since the Bootmakers' Union had started this agitation two non-union shops had signified their willingness towork under the rules of the Union, viz., Messrs Lake and Co. and De la Cceur. Circulars containing the names of the Union brands were circulated, and a resolution was unanimously adopted pledging members to assist the Bootmakers' Union in every possible way. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
