THE MIDLAND ' BAILWAY. « , THE CONTRACT j SIGNED. Mr H. Alan Scott, manager for the Midland Bailway Company in New Zealand, received a cable message this morning from London, stating that the contract between the Government and the Company for the construction of the line has been signed. The good news of course spread like wildfire through the town, and knots of citizens stood in the streets congratulating eaoh other on the successful ending of the long negotiations between the Company and Government.
