PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

■ ■» This Day. THE END OF THE SESSION. MAJOR CAMPBELL. [fbom oub own cobbespondent.] WELLINGTON, August 4. It is now generally surmised that after the clearing of the atmosphere by the vote on Thursday night, the session will be over 'in little more than a fortnight, but this ia reckoning without the Legislative Council, who, if the resolution proposed by Sir G. Whitmore is agreed to, will be in sessionforanothermonthatleast. The effect of his proposal is that the Council will refuse to suspend the Standing Orders in order to permit any Bill to pass its several stages until twenty-four hours after it haa been printed and circulated, which means that no Bill can be rushed through after coming from the House of Bepresentatives. The rumour is revived that Major Campbell, Clerk of Parliament, is to be called to the Upper House, and that, with the consent of Government, a motion ia to be moved in favour of presenting an address to His Excellency, requesting him to. call Major Campbell to a eeat in the Legislative Council.
