CANTERBURY YACHT CLUB.

An attempt was made on Saturday afternoon to sail off the tie for second place between the yachta Neva and Lota. The former was to give the latter four minutes' time twice round the course. At three o'clock the boats got away to a good start, beating down to the reef against a light sou-wester. The Neva turned the reef first by a minute or two. Running down to the Parson's Rock buoy, the wind dropped to a dead calm, and after a long Bpell the Neva got the first of a light air from the south-east. The wind, however, was only a little better than a dead calm, and at about 6 o'clock the boats stood for home, by mutual consent agreeing to postpone the match. The next race, the first of the three for Mr H. Allwright's cup, will take place next Saturday. It is said that the Rhodes' Bay yacht Surprise will take part in the contest.
